Pennsylvania Libations (finally!) opens in the Strip

This isn't just another liquor store.

Pennsylvania Libations, a company devoted to locally produced liquor and wine, opened Monday on Penn Avenue in the Strip.

Customers are be able to shop from more than 31 Pennsylvania manufacturers of rum, vodka and wine, including Wigle Whiskey, Maggie's Farm Rum and Pittsburgh Winery. And, yes, you can taste test.

The store carries spirits that can be hard to procure, according to Good Food Pittsburgh.

"It would take anyone a week and probably over 1,000 miles to drive around Pennsylvania and visit all these places," owner Christian Simmons said.

According to Good Food Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Libations is working with these providers:

  • CJ Spirits
  • Liberty Pole Spirits
  • Maggie's Farm Rum
  • La Dorita
  • Boyd & Blair
  • Red Brick Craft Distillery
  • Conneaut Cellars Winery
  • The Stone House Restaurant
  • Big Spring Spirits
  • Xplorer Spirits
  • Thistle Finch
  • Manatawny Still Works
  • Ridgerunner Distillery
  • Rowhouse Spirits

The concept was made possible by changes to the state's liquor regulations last summer, Simmons said. Most products at Pennsylvania Libations will not be available in state stores.

Pennsylvania Libations also will offer events and consulting. The space is available for parties and other gatherings.
