Where are all the elongated penny machines in Pittsburgh?
Do you collect those crushed copper coins with images and slogans on them? Drop a penny in the machine — along with some larger coins — and turn the crank to flatten Abe Lincoln into an oval keepsake. You'll spot these at tourist attractions around the world but Pittsburgh has a few tucked away if you look for them.
Here are the locations:
• Carnegie Science Center
• Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium (3 machines)
• National Aviary
• Children's Museum
• Carnegie Museum of Natural History
• Duquesne Incline (2 machines)
• Station Square food court
• Heinz History Center
Did we miss any?
The Penny Collector website says the concept dates back to 1892 in Chicago.
121 new pennies to add to the collection of ones I didn't get on my own. Yes I keep two separate collections. How fun to go through these. My favorites were from The Statue of Liberty, CNN Global Headquarters, 1968 Worlds Fair and lots of Museums, Parks and Zoo's. #smashedpenny #elongatedcoins #mythriftedhome #collection #pressedpenny
